Science: Week of 3/2 - 3/6

Students will be taking a performance assessment on Tuesday, 3/3.  This will assess their ability in science standard 4 and will go in their science portfolio.  There is nothing to study for this assessment since it is assessing skill and not a particular topic we have covered in class.  On Thursday, 3/5 students will finish their performance assessment.  Any extra time on Thursday can be used to catch up on late work or as a study hall.

Social Studies: Week of 2/23

This week students will review their performance assessment from last week and will clarify any questions that students may have from previous material. Following that, students will do a population activity and play the game "Spent." They should have a pretty easy time making connections between these activities and material learned from previous class periods. All of the work done this week should be able to be finished in class.  However, whatever is not finished will be homework.

Communication Arts: Feb. 23 - 27

In Communication Arts we are practicing for the Badger Exam by completing a performance task early in the week. Students will then receive feedback later in the week. Wednesday is the February One Pager writing day in class. Students will also be introduced to the argument paper topic and expectations later in the week, and they will begin researching in Science class with Mrs. Greer because we are collaborating for this project.

NEW One Pager Procedures for CA

New One Pager Procedures

  1. Give students a class period to write their three proficient paragraphs.
  2. Students will be given a random writing prompt at the beginning of class.
  3. Students will write their One Pager on a blank Google doc. This document will be shared with the teacher and printed off and turned in at the end of the block.
  4. In order to get a computer students will need to have their graphic organizer checked off by the teacher.
  5. See rubric for length requirements

Goals of new system:

  • Students must turn in whatever they accomplished that day - no late papers unless they were absent
  • Will ensure teachers are getting a clear picture of their abilities that day - without parent involvement (better summative assessment)
  • Will lessen (or hopefully eliminate) plagiarism
  • Will hopefully motivate students to have their books finished on time since they know they will only have that specific day to type their paper

Communication Arts: 2/9 - 2/13

This week is Random Acts of Kindness Week, so we are infusing kindness related topics and acts into class through reading, writing and media. On Monday we read an article and made connections using an SDQR chart as well as completed a writing prompt in order to prepare for the Badger exam. We will begin our argument writing unit on Wednesday. To end the week, students will have a graded discussion and book scavenger hunt to find books that interest them. Be sure to check out the new One Pager procedures post.
