¡Hola 8th grade parents!

This week Spanish 1 students will be continuing their unit about hobbies and personal interests. Grades on Infinite Campus are updated! If you're noticing that your child's grade seems a little low, it might be because they didn't turn in one of their assignments. Both assignments are accessible on Google Classroom and can still be turned in for credit! A number of students are all caught up with everything, but a few still have something missing, so please encourage your child to turn in their work if you notice they have something missing.

Science 8 - Week of 9/24

Thanks to all families who have returned permission slips for a trip to Devil's Lake next week. We are still missing a few permission slips - if your student has not turned in a permission slip please check with them. Permission slips are due this Thursday.

Homework assignments help keep students on track during class and can be used as open note resources on all assessments. Due dates are subject to change based on what is accomplished in class.

Week of September 24

Students will finish up writing a News Cast early this week that will be turned in for a grade. They will then spend some time trying to write more in-depth news articles the rest of the week.

Students have been working on writing numerous newscasts. This work will continue this week and they will "publish" an article early next week that will be graded.

Science 8 - Week of 9/17 (Quiz Friday)

Field Trip Permission Slips for our trip to Devil's Lake on Oct. 3 will be sent home early this week. Please return to school as quickly as possible - there is no fee associated with this trip. Additionally - parent volunteers will be needed to help monitor students during the ranger-led hike, as well as during lunch as the school-led portion of the day. Volunteers should be comfortable hiking for 2 hours and should bring a bag lunch. If you are able to join us, please fill out the bottom portion of the permission slip.

The following table layers out the assignments and assessment that are due this week. Some assignments will be added to the grade book as a "homework" grade. These assignments are only marked as "Turned-In" or "Missing" and do not count towards overall grades, however keeping up with in-class assignments and practice is crucial to doing well on unit assessments. These assignments can also be used as notes on any unit assessments including quizzes and tests. Graded assignments will count towards students overall grades.

Science 8 - Week of 9/10

Our first unit in Science 8 will focus on Earth History. We will be studying the processes that shape Earth by asking the question - How did Devil's Lake State Park form? All 8th grade students will be visiting Devil's Lake State Park on Oct. 3 to do a guided tour with their Educational Leader and look for evidence about Earth's history. Be on the look-out next week for a permission slip!

On Friday, students were assigned a reading response. Reading response are GRADED and are due on Tuesday for students who did not finish in class.
