Communication Arts: 10/26 - 10/30

Students will start our class novel, A Long Way From Chicago, this week. They will be discussing and analyzing the novel using literature circles as well as whole group discussions. Individual tasks will be required as well. Prior to each literature circle meeting, students will have to read the assigned chapter, complete a role sheet and 3 Post It Note annotations. These items will be used as discussion and analysis talking points. The reading schedule for students is as follows:

Wed: Chapter 1, role sheet and Post Its are due
Fri: Chapter 2, role sheet and Post Its are due

A Weekly Reading Evidence Paragraph will be due on Thursday of this week as well. Students will write their first draft on Wednesday in class.

There is a Chapter 3 Test currently scheduled for Thursday of this week. Students are allowed to use the front side of one sheet of paper for notes.

Communication Arts: 10/19 - 10/23

In CA this week, students will continue to write their narrative paper. The schedule for the week is as follows:

Monday - Conference with Miss Deans about body paragraphs, make revisions to body paragraphs, conclusion mini-lesson, start conclusion
Tuesday - Golf Field Trip (no core academics)
Wednesday - Revise body paragraphs, finish conclusion, conclusion due at the end of class, conference with Miss Deans during class if ready to do so about the conclusion
Thursday - Conference with Miss Deans about conclusions, self and peer edits, print paper
Friday - Paper due at the start of class, Narrative Celebration Day!

Nationalism/Patriotism Social Studies Test

Next Wednesday, October 21st, students will be taking their Nationalism and Patriotism Unit Test. Students will be receiving a study guide and work time on Monday, October 19th, to answer any questions they have and to prepare themselves for the test.
