Pittner Science 12/19

This week in Ms. Pittner's science class we will be finishing up our short unit on Earth's changing climate. The focus of this unit is on the evidence and data to support that our climate is changing as well as ways to help mitigate the change. Students will be working on posters to organize what they have learned as well as propose different solutions. This project will in the grade book under standard 2 : "Applies scientific knowledge to investigate how humans impact systems." The students should have enough time to finish this project in class before break. For any specifics or details on what the project will entail, please send Ms. Pittner an email!

Students will be finishing up their weather unit this week by creating PiktoCharts and giving a small presentation on their city's weather. Presentations are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, but may be pushed back until Thursday depending on how much time students need to finish.

8th Grade Science - Pittner

This week we will be finishing up our Chemistry unit. Students do not have a quiz this week, but will take the Final Chemistry Assessment on Monday, September 26th.

Chemistry Quizzes - There were two  quizzes given during the Chemistry Unit. Please talk to your student about their quizzes and encourage them to make corrections and do a retake if necessary.

If your student is confused, please have them set up a time with Ms. Pittner to meet. As we near the end of the chemistry unit a lot of the earlier concepts are building on each other - this can be confusing. A great way for your student to stay on track is to copy down the notes in class - students can use their notes on tests and quizzes so this skill is a great asset!

Art Update

I hope you got to enjoy the art displayed during the spring band and choir concert! It's exciting for the students to be able to show their work to their friends and families!

Communication Arts: 4/25 - 4/29

In CA we are starting Battle of the Brains. Students create a team or work individually to read an article and answer questions about it. Each day they "battle" another team within the class using a bracket system. Within their block, students are competing to earn the title of Battle of the Brains Winners and amongst the blocks to crown the overall winner and earn other small prizes. In addition to this awesome event, students will complete a variety of other learning activities as outlined below.
