Hola parents!

This week in Spanish 1 8th graders are working towards finishing Unit 2, which is about descriptions (both physical and personality traits) about their families and family members. On Tuesday and Wednesday the A and B day sections will be working on a short writing assignment in class that will be graded. Students will be having their Unit 2 Assessment (reading, speaking, and writing) next week, so please encourage your child to study and review their materials throughout the week in order to prepare and have success with next week's assessment.

Week of October 29

Students will continue to work on character traits in their choice reading novels. On Monday, they will submit a journal entry for grading. On Tuesday, students will be completing a Flipgrid discussion on the main character in their novel.

Science 8 - Week of 10/29

Final grades have been updated for all students on Infinite Campus. There are minimal graded assignments left this week so posted grades are not likely to change - students still have time to make corrections this week if they are not happy with their final grades. Ms. Pittner is available Monday and Tuesday after school to help with missing work or corrections.

Reminder - Devil's Lake Field Trip Tomorrow

Hello - This is just a reminder that the field trip to Devil's Lake for all 8th grade students is happening tomorrow, Wednesday October 3. Students need to be prepared to be on their feet and moving for most of the day. There will be uphill and downhill hiking for a portion of the day. Please check the list below of things that your student MUST have with them tomorrow so that they are prepared for the trip:

• Gym/Hiking Shoes - due to the nature of the hike, students will not be able to board the bus with out having gym shoes or hiking/rain boots with grip on the bottom
• Bag lunch (students who ordered a bag lunch from school can pick up their lunch during nutrition break)
• Water
• Backpack or drawstring/cinch bag 
• Pencil

Recommended Items Include:

• Poncho/Rain Coat
• Extra Sweatshirt/Coat
• Sunscreen
• Extra dry shoes to change into on the bus

If you're noticing that your child's grade seems a little low, it might be because they didn't turn in one of their assignments. Week of September 24

Students will finish up writing a News Cast early this week that will be turned in for a grade. They will then spend some time trying to write more in-depth news articles the rest of the week.

Students have been working on writing numerous newscasts. This work will continue this week and they will "publish" an article early next week that will be graded.

Science 8 - Week of 9/17 (Quiz Friday)

Field Trip Permission Slips for our trip to Devil's Lake on Oct. 3 will be sent home early this week. Please return to school as quickly as possible - there is no fee associated with this trip. Additionally - parent volunteers will be needed to help monitor students during the ranger-led hike, as well as during lunch as the school-led portion of the day. Volunteers should be comfortable hiking for 2 hours and should bring a bag lunch. If you are able to join us, please fill out the bottom portion of the permission slip.

The following table layers out the assignments and assessment that are due this week. Some assignments will be added to the grade book as a "homework" grade. These assignments are only marked as "Turned-In" or "Missing" and do not count towards overall grades, however keeping up with in-class assignments and practice is crucial to doing well on unit assessments. These assignments can also be used as notes on any unit assessments including quizzes and tests. Graded assignments will count towards students overall grades.
