Communication Arts: 2/1 - 2/5

In CA the students will continue their decades text structures project. Students should have already written the following text structure paragraphs - sequence, problem and solution and description. Each sequence is two paragraphs, totaling six paragraphs so far.

Monday: Compare and contrast text structures mini-lesson, work time
Tuesday: Presentation model, presentation creation and group collaboration time
Wednesday: Rehearse presentations with group and Guest Speaker - Mrs. Woodson
Thursday: Presentations All text structure paragraphs are due!
Friday: Presentations

Students will have the opportunity to sign up for a presentation day since we will not get through all the presentations each day. If students do not sign up, I will assign them a specific day.

* If students dress according to their decade or bring in memorabilia from their decade, they will earn a special treat. Outfits must be school appropriate!

Friday - Mr. Anderson will be back to collect the elective sheet he handed out last week. Please make sure your son or daughter completed the sheet and brings it to class on Friday.

In CA this week, students will start a decades project where they research a decade and write in various text structures. There are two components to the project, an individual writing component and a group presentation component. The topics for this week are as follows:

Students are in the middle of composing their research papers. Many students did not finish their body paragraphs by last Friday, so they are going to work quickly and diligently to catch up. I will conference with each student individually and give them feedback as they are ready.The mini-lessons and due dates are below for this week.

Communication Arts 1/4 - 1/8

Students will begin their research papers this week and finish them entirely on January 19. The paper deadlines and mini-lessons for teaching students how to write their research paper are below. The research topic must be current (within the last year) and school appropriate.

Students will have in class work time each day in addition to conferencing with Miss Deans about each section of their paper (body, introduction, conclusion) and receiving feedback prior to turning in their final paper on Tuesday, January 19 which will be graded and entered on Infinite Campus.

Monday, 1/4: Research paper model and analysis and note taking model. Begin researching. Research paper topic must be approved by Miss Deans by the end of class. 

Tuesday, 1/5: Continue researching. Review citation expectations.

Wednesday, 1/6:  Body paragraph model and analysis. Plan body paragraphs using the graphic organizer.

Thursday, 1/7: Finish planing body paragraphs using the graphic organizer. Begin typing the paragraphs using MLA set up.

Friday, 1/8: Finish typing body paragraphs. Self edit tasks. Body paragraphs are due by the end of class.
