World Cultures (10/2-10/6)

This week, students will be finishing two major projects in class. On Monday, students will finish writing their cultural comparison paper in which they compare their adopted country's culture to American culture. We will not have class on Tuesday as the students will be on their golf field trip for PE. The students who are remaining at school will listen to a presentation from veterans about their experience living overseas and in combat. They will also be working on their Patriot's Pen essays for the VFW. The remaining days next week will be devoted to finishing our Amazing Race project that we have been working on since the beginning of the school year.

World Cultures (9/25-9/29)

Students will be writing their cultural comparison paper this week in class. Students will spend Monday researching their adopted country's culture using this document. The rest of the week will be spent writing a cultural comparison paper between their adopted country and the United States. Directions and a timeline of when each paragraph are due can be found in the Culture project document.  Each day, students will be working on a specific paragraph for their paper. I will be conferencing with each student individually to give them feedback about their work. If students use their time productively, the entire paper will be written in class. The completed paper will ultimately be due next week Tuesday (10/3).

World Cultures: 9/18-9/22

This week students will be creating their Google site for the country that they will be representing all semester. They will be conducting background research on their country using this document. Students will also have another chance to continue working on their Amazing Race project. Dr. Pritzl and Mrs. Morton will be in on Wednesday 9/20 to talk about harassment with all of my classes. Finally, students will be examining the spread of American popular culture around the world with this assignment.

Week of September 11

Welcome to the exciting world of 8th grade World Cultures!

As the new school year begins, I am excited about seeing all of the students I had as 7th graders last year again. This year I plan on being here all semester and not taking a quarter off on paternity leave. I am also excited about the changes we have made to the 8th grade curriculum this year. We are beginning the year by analyzing culture. We are also beginning our first major project of the year-- the Amazing Race project!
