Welcome to Science 8!

Welcome to Science 8! Ms. Pittner and Ms. Weckerly had great first days with their 8th grade groups. We are looking forward to working with your students as they finish up middle school! While Science 7 focused mainly on Life Science, Science 8 will spend the majority of our time on Earth Science. Our first unit question centers on this past summer's eclipse and a fish farm failure that occurred around the same time. The main question/phenomenon we will be working on is: “The fish pens of the Cook Aquaculture fish farm, near Cypress Island, WA, experienced a disastrous failure, which was blamed on the solar eclipse. How could the eclipse have caused the pens to break? What else could have caused the pens to break?”

This week we'll focus on getting set with the question, recording our initial ideas and then venturing to space to see where Earth fits into the Universe.

Monday - Expectations Review and Article Response on the news articles about the question (due in class)
Tuesday - Initial Model Creation + Earth in Space Notes
Wednesday - Pittner: Galactic Address Activity/ Weckerly: Guidance Lesson on choosing HS classes
Thursday - Pittner: Guidance Lesson on choosing HS classes/Weckerly: Galactic Address Activity (due Monday)
Friday - Earth/Moon/Sun Systems and Toilet Paper Solar System
